A busy call day continued last night. I went up the hill to see an ICU patient at 3 AM and was reading about how to correct a problem until around 4 (for the medical folks, it was a partially compensated metabolic acidosis). The walk up is not that far but it is uphill the whole way and we are at something like 6000 feet above sea level, so the air is pretty thin.
Today, we attended a wonderful church service and finished rounds by 1 PM (things slow down at Tenwek for church and chai). The head nurse had Shelley and the girls over for breakfast and one of the full time staff had us over for a great lunch. It has been raining this afternoon and all four of us have been sitting around the fire in our fleeces.
I certainly feel like I am getting more from Kenya than I could ever give back. Many of the patients have little or nothing, yet they profess and exude God's love.
"Has not God chosen those who are poor to the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him".
James 2:5
